They Said She Wasn’t “Pretty Enough”

The moment she walked through the door, I knew something was wrong. Emma didn’t even try to hide it—her eyes were red, her voice shaking as she told me what had happened. A simple job inquiry had turned into humiliation in seconds. The words the sales assistant used weren’t just rude—they were cruel, deliberate, and meant to cut deep. And they did. Watching her sit there, questioning herself over something so shallow… that’s when I decided I wasn’t letting it go.

I didn’t react right away. Instead, I waited a few days, letting the anger settle into something sharper—something controlled. Then I went back to that same store, dressed simply, saying nothing about who I was. I walked around like any regular customer, observing, listening. The same assistant was there, smiling at others, acting completely different from what Emma described. That contrast made everything worse.
